Teo

‍

We rescued Teo after he had been living on the streets for quite some time. He was very skinny, not neutered, and one of our volunteers kept seeing him day after day, just sitting there at an intersection. Eventually, we simply couldn’t leave him behind anymore and decided to take him in.

Even back then, skinny and homeless, Teo somehow managed to look distinguished and classy. He is a true gentleman.

We jokingly call him the Richard Gere of the dog world, and honestly, it describes him surprisingly well. He has that slightly grey, handsome, elegant look, combined with a lot of charm and personality.

Teo’s age is a tough one to guess. His teeth look more like those of a dog around 3 years old, and his energy, playfulness and vitality make us think he is still a young adult. At the same time, his beautiful grey face makes him look older. So rather than putting a number on him that might be completely wrong, we prefer to simply say this:

Teo has a ton of life in him.

He loves his morning walks, playing tug of war, going down to the creek, and he is always ready to jump into the car and go somewhere. He is curious, engaged and genuinely enjoys being part of whatever is happening.

We have been working on leash training and he is doing extremely well. Teo is incredibly smart and very food motivated, which makes him easy and fun to teach.

His foster once told him to wait at the top of the stairs until she reached the bottom. She told him once. That was enough. He understood and has waited ever since.

Teo has a very pleasant personality and a wonderful sense of presence. He gets along beautifully with the other two dogs in his foster home. He is protective of his home and yard and pays close attention to what is going on around him.

And then there is his softer side.

After his morning walk and breakfast, he usually comes over and lies right at his foster mom’s feet while she works on the computer. He loves doing things and going on little adventures, but he also deeply loves simply being close to his person.

In fact, Teo is convinced he is a lap dog. He slowly inches his way closer until half of his 19 kg body is lying across your lap, completely content.

He also somehow decided that an old suitcase was the perfect bed, so his foster put a cushion inside it, and that is now where he sleeps every night.

Teo is smart, funny, loyal, affectionate and always ready for the next little adventure.

Adopting an adult dog is one of the most compassionate choices a person can make. They are so often the ones who wait the longest and are overlooked first, even though they can be some of the easiest and most wonderful dogs to welcome into a home.

We would love to find someone who looks past the grey on Teo’s face and sees the dog standing in front of them.

Because Teo has so much left to give.

If you are interested in adopting Teo, please fill out our adoption application first. We have one application for expats and one for Ticos.

And because rainy season is always especially difficult for rescues, we currently have a Rainy Season Special: all adoptions are ₡25,000, whether you are Tico or expat.

FAQ

  • Where are you located / Is there a shelter I can visit?

We are a foster-based rescue, which means we operate without a shelter or office. Every animal we help is cared for in a foster home. Most of our fosters and volunteers are located in and around San Isidro de El General, Pérez Zeledón, in the Southern Zone of Costa Rica.

  • Can I visit the animals available for adoption?

Yes! Once your application is approved, we’ll coordinate a meet-and-greet with the foster home.

  • I saw a dog / cat on social media up for adoption but can’t find it on the website.

    There are two possible reasons:

    1. We haven’t had time to upload the animal to the website, but it may still be available.

    2. The animal is in a foster-to-adopt trial or has already found a home. You’re still welcome to apply using our general adoption application. Then we can match you with a similar dog / cat.
